Red Roof Inn, not the job it was made out to be

Before you read this entry I am stating now that anything wrote here is fact. Anything I state here has been recorded in one way or another and is not just said due to what happened. I normally don’t write things when angry which is why I didn’t write this on Saturday. However I’m still royally pissed off so it still may not be pretty.

I want to say now to those I did have respect for at Red Roof I’m sorry for what you’re about to read if you read this.

Are you looking for a job you can do from home? Have you maybe heard that working for Red Roof Inn could be the place for you? Well, let me tell you a few things that you don’t find out until after the gloves are off and training is over!

Most important work for them is more important than the health and well-being of their employees. I was told this quite clearly by a staff member several times in one conversation to make sure I heard it correctly. If you need to take off because you are extremely sick…forget it if there isn’t what they call *time in the bucket* either for VTO, voluntary time off or PTo, paid time off. You won’t get it. Hell or their may be time in the bucket but you can’t have it for whatever work reason they come up with. You are forced then to take a UA and that stands for an unexcused absence. 3 of those equals bye bye, you’re gone!

So, during training we were told that things are handled on a case by case basis. That’s cool, that makes sense. You could have ones take off just because they just don’t feel like working, but then, you may have ones like these.

1. an at home agent that has no heat in the middle of winter and the agent could be at risk of getting frost bite if they stay in the house. Red Roof doesn’t care they are not giving VTO for whatever work reason. You must work or take a UA.
2. An at home agent lets their supervisor know they are extremely ill and at risk of passing out and it would not be good for callers or business to work that night…..oops, sorry, you must work because Red Roof is not allowing VTO’s that night. UA again.
3. One you absolutely have no control over and once again have informed your supervisor about. The at home agent is extremely sick and the calls will definitely be crappy tonight for making reservations, but still willing to try since…yep, same song and dance! Unfortunately things get worse and the agent ends up in the hospital severely dehydrated and a fever of 101.8.Once again forced to take a UA because of work related reasons they refuse to give a VTO in this case. Sadly it’s the third!

Now, it is this third one that really gets me pissed off. Red Roof expects their agents to work knowing how sick they are while claiming they aren’t heartless. After hearing the agent is in the hospital and could have passed out and worse went into a coma or died during the shift they would have been forced to work and *no one* would have known until it was too late. Then what would have Red Roof done? Tell the family….oh I’m sorry, but calls were backed up and we couldn’t do this or that and our hands were tied?”

This company claims that can’t get enough workers, it’s hard getting overnight people to work and they are *so* backed up with calls, but instead of working with the agent they let them go. What sense does that make?

And forget about asking for them to rethink/appeal or whatever their decision. They don’t even bother answering. Just state the same thing. We were backed up and couldn’t do XYZ. You should have managed your time better to plan for illness and such. I mean, seriously, who the hell can plan for going into the emergency room due to having the bad version of the flu? Who can plan the weather and sitting in a freezing cold house with no heat. If someone can, please let me know!

Anyways, moving right along.

If you think working from home is great give this a thought as well. Unlike the agents in house you don’t have co-workers to talk to or vent at or get things off your chest without being spied on. In house, meaning at the Red Roof Inn call center they can at least see who may be coming and shut up or go talk in more unpopulated areas. They have a chance to get to know each other during their breaks if they show choose. They have food parties and on and on!

What do at home agents have? Skype and that’s only if they accidentally get to know each other and calls are super super slow.

however, there’s software on your computer that allows any Red Roof higher agent see what’s going on on your computer. They say this is only when you’re on a call, but several times this fact has been disproven. So if you decide to work for Red Roof and get to know other workers on your shift, really get to know them out of work as well and start sending text messages or talk in code. However, I’d still be very careful whom you choose to be close friends with.

One of the biggest things that made me loose respect for Red Roof is when I told something confidential to one of my higher agents and it made it’s way to others that never ever should have been given that information. They told this information to people that were the problem and lost respect points in my eyes. So when they tell you that you can tell them something and it stays…take it with a grain of salt! I had great respect and even liked the person up to that point.

Thinking of working third shift?

Now here’s a big one to consider as well. The third shift workers get the short end of the stick. Due to the mistake of some higher up that whole shift lost their VTO, no warning what so ever, just poof gone! So there could be times you’ll sit there for a long time without a call when call times are slow, like after Christmas until around March. But keep in mind, that even if it comes back there’s no certainty you can get it if they don’t want to give it out or others stole all the time.

You may be wondering why I mention VTO more than PTo. Well, simple, PTO is hard to get. First, you don’t get it until 6 months *after* you work for them and then after that you really do want to only use it when you need to. But it works the same way. If you want to use PTO and there’s no time….sorry, you’re screwed.

Love perverted callers?

Hope so because you definitely get your share of them during third shift and you’re not allowed to hang up on them. You have to waist more time getting them over to a supervisor…if they stay on the phone that long. And get this, that perverted call, just counted against your conversion score! You didn’t get that nasty pervert to make a reservation. Like I’m sorry but unless I’m working for a 900 number, the money Red Roof paid wasn’t worth putting up with calls like those.

Now lets talk about that conversion score.

You know during training and during the hiring process it was *stressed* by different people that *quality* was more important than *quanity* Yes, our job is to make reservations, but no one would *push* you to make a certain number.

aaaaaaaaaaaa! stop, hold the phone!

They do push and push hard, some more than others. Making a certain percentage is very important. Some demand you make more than the center or more than the team. If you have a percentage lower than say 20, that’s just not ok. Bad days are just not allowed depending on whom you ask!

One last thing I will say before closing this out and moving on. I just had to get this all out of my system before I could let it go completely. The ohs of writing!

Red Roof will tell you all day until they are blue in the face that they are a family and treat their employees as such, but I’m sorry even if I don’t count all I saw after training, their actions this weekend makes it a family I seriously don’t wish to be a part of after all. I was hoping they’d have a heart and work with me like they did in the beginning when I was pregnant with Jaydon, but I guess that was just a one off deal. Even though they claimed in a recording that they looked at things on a case by case basis and speak with the agent, they don’t. It’s all smoke and mirrors. Except for maybe if you’re one of their favorites and you can do no wrong in their eyes. Even dysfunctional families listen to each other and don’t always make feel like crap. i wish I could say the same for my time at Red Roof Inn or hell be one of those lucky ones that could do no wrong and the job is absolutely wonderful!.

Sorry for the long rant post. Have a good night and thanks for reading!

with friends like these

It may come a time in your life when you don’t have close family members to count on and you may need those trusted friends to step in during a bad situation. But, what happens when those so called trusted friends ends up turning on you at the worse possible time?

A mother and father sadly had to end up in the hospital at the same time and had to quickly make arrangements for their 2 year old daughter. They asked a friend if they could please look after her and the lady friend agreed.

Now, the next day just hours before the mother has to go into surgery the lady friend calls and states that they must find other arrangements for their daughter because their husband complained about how their anniversary was ruined and the child should have gone to CPS.

What the hell? I don’t know about you, but a comment like that would have gotten my partner or spouse a slap across the face What kind of thing is that to say about a child and to friends that are going through a hard time and you are suppose to be their friend?

ok, it was your anniversary so maybe to start with you could have said no, I’m sorry we can’t due to other plans if your anniversary is that important to you over the well-being of your friends and their child. Maybe they don’t have children of their own and that time is special after all, but doing it the way it was done is just unbelievable!

Then, then, to make it worse the husband had the balls to say the child should have just gone to cps! That leads me to wonder if these people really are their friends to begin with. No, the lady friend didn’t say these things, but she didn’t knock some sense into her husband. If they don’t have kids and ever plan on having them what does this say about him as a father figure? better re-think having kids with him then. if they do have kids and for him to say something like that about another child it makes me feel sorry for them if something ever happens and God forbid he needs help.

My best to the family that is currently going through this and to those so called friends of theirs I hope you’re filled with guilt for a long time over your recent actions.

Time Warner ignores blind customers

Here is something I feel that all blind individuals should be aware of if you are either with Time Warner Cable or thinking of switching to them.

Now TWC has an app that is pretty much accessible except for one part and that would be the guide! Since September 23, 2015 this feature has stopped working.

Now my boyfriend and I are both blind and first contacted TWC about this problem then and they said they would look into it. We even provided them with an audio file of what the issue was so they could see it.

Guess what happened?

Absolutely nothing that’s what! It’s now May 9, 2016 and we are still fighting with this same problem. Every update that TWC releases I go in and check to see if maybe they fixed the guide with no luck.

Every time this situation is brought to their attention they want to know what errors come up and what we were doing when the error occurred.

How many times must we try nd explain that it’s not an error that it is a feature that speech does not read any longer.

On a recent call from TWC we were told that their engineer of developing said that voiceover for IPhones hasn’t worked since the IOS 9.0.1 version.

Now you may think this is just an IPhone issue, but as of today since I had to switch to android for a while the TWCTV app guide portion is just like the IPhone. The guide feature does not work at all. I am still waiting to hear from TWC to see what they say about why it doesn’t work on the android, but from my experience with them regarding the IPhone things don’t look good.

Does Time Warner Cable care at all about their blind customers? There are so many of us complaining about this no longer working, but they still refuse to listen or work with blind customers to fix the problem. I could understand not being able to figure it out if the guide feature never worked and them being stumped, but TWC had it working before September 23, 2015 so why not try backtracking to see what is missing in the code or something?

Has my brain finally had enough?

Oh my poor brain must really wish that it could find another safer place to float around in. I’m sure if it could yell at me I’d hear, “let me out of here already! I’ve had enough of being knocked around. It is not safe!”

1. When an idiot teenage boy pushed me off a slide
that was the beginning of the end for my poor head and scrambled brains.

2. I love goalball and so miss playing it, but once again I’m sure if my brain could yell at me it would say, “ow ow ow!!! Can you please find a safer sport?” Whenever I had to protect the goal against a penalty shot I’d not only stop the ball, but also slide smack into the very very hard goal post! *wham* One time I did it so hard that I seriously saw stars and heard multiple balls! Now that was creepy. Ha, all I did was rub my head and wonder how I’d manage to protect my side of the court when I heard more than one ball, smiles.

3. Everyone knows that shopping can definitely be dangerous at times, but usually the danger is from other crazy shoppers or maybe wet floors or something like that. Who would think that an attack would come from something you couldn’t see unless you seriously were looking? One day my friend Brodie and I were shopping and we sat down to check out the comfort of a couch.

*smack* goes my head against some extremely hard thing with an edge. It was hard enough that it actually knocked me off the couch. I’m shocked, Brodie’s freaking and neither of us knows what the hell happened for a while.

After I assured her that I was ok when I was sure I wasn’t going to die or faint or puke all over the floor Brodie inspected the couch to see what was there. In doing so she nearly knocked her own head off. There was a shelf right above the couch that was the exact same color of the wall. There was nothing sitting on the damn shelf to warn anyone that *hello* heads up, shelf here. Brodie only saw it at the last minute cause one part was slightly darker than the rest. She went from freaked to pissed off in the blink of an eye and I thought she’d rip the head off of any store person she could find…if they would have been around.

Ha, but me being me I just shook my head and told her that “time to go, my freaken head hurts!” Smiles, she knew better than try and talk me into going to the doctor. I wasn’t dying so . . .

4. Finally the last shock to my head happened last week on Thursday morning. Yet again I run into an idiot…or maybe I should say the idiot ran into me, but this time it was an adult! He was *so* involved in his phone conversation and in *such* a great hurry to get to where ever he was suppose to be that I guess it didn’t cross his mind to *watch* where he was going.

*** BAM ***

He runs smack into me from behind just as Luna and I clear the door and off I fly down the stairs! I have the quick reflex of letting Luna’s leash go so she doesn’t get hurt as well. Do you think he stopped to see if I was ok?

*no* of course not that would have made sense or made him even later I suppose! So, *yap yap yap* I hear as he walks away…maybe he mumbled sorry, but I haven’t a clue if that was really for me or whomever he was talking to on the phone.

Hello another head injury how are you?

This is something I didn’t mention to people after it happened because I was *terrified* and in a state of pure panic. On my way down I unfortunately met the edge of the nice hard hand rail when trying to prevent myself from falling all the way down the stairs and it caught me in just the wrong spot of my head…again! I mean I know I have a hard head, but sheesh must it keep being put to the test?

For the past week I’ve been trying to keep calm and hopes that the blackness that has appeared will fade and things will go back to my *normal* The only thing that’s happening is my headaches have gotten worse and my inner suffering is increasing.

Has my poor brain finally had enough of being knocked around? Did this last round with some immovable object finally stolen what I’ve tried so hard to hold on too?

*man* I hope not!

Maybe I should start going around in a helmet?

The day from hell

OMG, did you ever have one of those days where you really should have just stayed in bed?

Ugh, that was definitely my day yesterday. I’d like to just hit rewind and start it over, but it would just mean I’d have to freeze all over again and that’s ok.

First, Luna and I had our first really really bad work morning. Due to the stupid ice outside she just absolutely refuses to do anything but pee outside which sadly has carried over to her going inside. I mean not that I blame her for not wanting to go outside in the ice, hell I wouldn’t want to either!

However what really showed me that yeah, not luna’s day was she stopped dead and just refused to work. Yep, lets turn around and go home, morning program canceled.

Now lets fast forward to the evening. It’s waaaaay better than the morning.

So my first class at International Academy started last night and since it’s freaken cold out I took Uber and I got this person named Carl.

1. Carl took the long way to get around to the street we needed to be on
2. He past the address by a few blocks
3. He nearly caused an accident with several cars
4. He got irritated with the other drivers when they had the nerve to honk at him for reckless driving.
5. It took an hour to get me to school when it is a 8 minute drive from my house.

Not a bad trip right? You wouldn’t just say enough is enough and just want out of the car and find the place yourself now would you? He was a nice person and apologized, but really that trip was just *screams*

Now on a better note. Luna did much better than in the morning. That’s probably cause she just wanted away from that horrible cab trip and she figured working was the quickest way to do so hahahah. We got to our class and she happily went under the table and promptly fell asleep. Shhhhhh, Luna no snoring in class, sheesh!

In my business skills class there are I think 7 females and one male, 8 if you count Luna. Just a bit out numbered he is you think? Anna is the instructor and it’s cool since she’s also my instructor for my nutrition class on Thursday morning.

One of the best praises us guide dog handlers can hear….I didn’t know there was a dog there. Was she there the whole time?

Now, lets hope today goes much much better than yesterday!

LD, training5 first busy work day

Hey everyone.

Sorry this post is pretty late. I had loads of school work to catch up on that I couldn’t get done in the training center yesterday. So whenever you hear the words today or tomorrow that this post is for yesterday, *smiles*

Lets start with a tough situation that I need to get off my chest. I will not post names:
We had a situation last night during our 6:30PM lecture where a client totally called out another client. The room went absolutely quite, you could cut the tension with a knife and I know many people wanted to snap at the client that brought up the situation…me included. i don’t know about the instructor that was leading the lecture, but all clients after that was totally uncomfortable. This client that called out another in my opinion was way out of line on bringing it up in the setting and at least from my point of view, she’s one I will stay clear of. I hope the client that was called out *does not* let what the other client said get to them.

Now, on to the good stuff!!

Pictures of Luna:
I do have pictures of Luna and I will get them up on the blog hopefully soon.

My poop machine:
*whew* this dog can poop! I got at least 5 piles around 8AM. Can someone loan me some extra hands and legs?

Distractions:
This girl is definitely not subtle when it comes to her getting distracted. We’re just flying right along and *oo, down goes the nose* Ha, different than my last who was *sneaky* What I think will be guess work for me will be knowing when she’s distracted and when she’s taking me around something.

One awesome thing was she *did not* go for a piece of food that I dropped on the ground. yay Luna! She probably gave me a dirty look though for dropping her treat.

Tomorrow we are working on traffic checks *cries*

Playtime with Luna:
*chuckels* Luna is so funny when we play. she runs around the room with one of the bones in her mouth snorting. Now the funniest is when I give her the rope toy. When she has that one she runs around the room snorting, pouncing on the rope and batting at it with her paws. I’ll definitely get video of that when she doesn’t have to be attached to the leash. It definitely would be *no* fun seeing her get caught on the leash as she plays.

What the hell was that?
*chuckles* At 8PM I introduced Luna moon to our choir, *Shout Sister Choir* through facetime. It was totally awesome! I wish there was a way I could have had a video of our facetime ha! The look on her face when over 60 people said 8hi Luna* was great. They told me she got a look on her face like, *what the hell* Then when the choir all went *oo* Luna groaned and ran off the lay on her mat. *snickers*

Luna’s nicknames:
1. luna Moon
2. Luna Pistil
3. bouncy luna
4. pocket rocket
5. Lunatic
6. rocket launcher

So on to getting run over tomorrow! Wish us luck.

Stealing from a blind person make you feel great?

Did you need money that bad that you just had to have that laptop? Or maybe it was you just couldn’t afford to get your own so just steal one from a blind person? What the hell were you thinking? Scratch that you weren’t. just “oo look something I want, so I’ll just help myself.”

Who ever you are, black, white, blind, sighted I hope whatever you do with that laptop comes back to bite you in the ass. That you are caught and made to pay. Wishful thinking I know, but anything is possible. People like you make me absolutely sick.

Today I learned that a friend of mine had his laptop stolen from within his apartment. A secured apartment at that. Where you needs keys pretty much to go to the wash room around there. They did not steal anything else, just this laptop. What the fuck! He just moves into this place recently and is already a target of some idiot that has the brain of a flee.

To hear his account of what happened, please go listen to jerry

Phone call more important than passenger safety?

Some Blueline taxi drivers need to go back to class on passenger safety if there is such a thing. Especially when driving passengers with some form of disability.

Early this morning I had a huge craving for nachoes and cheese sticks and just had to go to Denny’s So off James and I went.

We went through our usual song and dance, waiting downstairs, blind passenger, let driver know blah blah. All went well with that part, driver was a good boy.

Sadly though when we got to Denny’s he either received or decided to make a phone call. This very important phone call made him lose his mind and forget about his blind passengers safety, because guess where he dropped us off?

*looks around confused*

In the middle of the parking lot of Denny’s and drove off! Didn’t ask if we needed help or anything. He just went on with his conversation, very loud too I must say, took our payment and poof, off he went.

Luckily for us a waitress was watching and came outside to help us. Yes, we would have eventually found the sidewalk, but that was completely stupid on the drivers part.

This Blueline Taxi driver this morning made their company look very very bad.

Where was that effective and professional service?
